Jimoh Ibrahim Eyes Ondo Governorship Amid Akeredolu’s Demise....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In the wake of the passing of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo South has boldly thrown his hat into the ring for the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state, confident that this turn of events will work in his favor………CONTINUE READING
Speaking from Akure on Thursday, Ibrahim asserted his readiness to contest, expressing assurance that the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency would refrain from imposing a candidate, allowing for a fair primary.
“I am declaring my intention to run for the governorship election of Ondo State. Among the contestants, I am the most experienced,” Ibrahim declared, highlighting his previous bids for governorship in 2003.
He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu would ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, dismissing the possibility of undue interference in favor of the incumbent.
Moreover, Ibrahim remarked that Akeredolu’s demise would not hinder his prospects but rather bolster his chances of securing victory in both the primary and general elections.
“The death of Aketi has enhanced my chances because he could have been swayed at the last minute. But now that he is no more, that possibility is gone. So whoever wants to contest for governor will meet me in the field,” Ibrahim asserted confidently.
He outlined his core agenda, focusing on economic development and security. Ibrahim stressed the need to equip the state Security Network Agency (Amotekun) with modern technology to effectively combat crime.
With the gubernatorial primaries drawing closer, several APC aspirants have emerged, including the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and other prominent figures like Wale Akinterinwa, Mayowa Akinfolarin, Oladunni Odu, Olusola Oke, and others.
Akeredolu, aged 67, passed away in December 2023 while receiving treatment for prostate cancer in Germany. His passing led to the swearing-in of acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who took over the reins of leadership following Akeredolu’s medical leave.
