The Senate had convened a crucial briefing session with heads of security agencies to address the escalating insecurity issues. However, the session, scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed to February 13 due to the absence of key figures, including the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Chief of Defence Staff.

Akpabio emphasized the importance of comprehensive insights from critical security figures for a thorough review of Nigeria’s security posture. He noted the absence of several key officials, including the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the ministers for defence and police affairs.

Expressing the Senate’s concern, Akpabio stated, “The situation is worrisome in Agatu, Taraba, Oyo, Plateau, Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi. We also heard about the infiltration (of bandits) into the federal capital territory (FCT) in places like Kubwa and Bwari.”

He reiterated the Senate’s commitment to representing the Nigerian people’s will and emphasized the need for the security briefing to include essential stakeholders. Akpabio outlined the expected attendees for the rescheduled meeting, including top security chiefs and government ministers.

In conclusion, Akpabio directed the senate clerk to ensure the presence of all invited officials at the next week’s meeting, underscoring the Senate’s determination to address the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria.
