NPC To Only Issue Birth Certificates To Individuals Below 18 Years Old, Attestation Of Birth For Older Citizens

Mr. Akin Oyetunde, the NPC State Director in Oyo State, clarified this during a press briefing in Ibadan on Tuesday.
He explained that the decision is based on the guidelines outlined in a 1992 Act, implying that individuals born before 1992 would not receive birth certificates. Instead, they will be provided with an Attestation of Birth.
However, Oyetunde assured that individuals below the age of 18 would continue to receive birth certificates from the Commission.
Highlighting the accessibility of registration services, Oyetunde noted that every local government in the state has birth and death registration centers, each with a minimum of three centers.
He emphasized that certificates issued by these centers are uniform and universally accepted.
Regarding the postponed National Population and Housing Census originally slated for 2023, Oyetunde expressed readiness for the exercise, stating that all necessary preparations had been made. He mentioned that training had been provided to personnel involved, and materials distributed to local governments, awaiting the green light from the Federal Government to commence the census.
