Makinde’s decision to step down stemmed from alleged irregularities in the nomination of electoral officers, citing instances where the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly was leading the team of officers in Owan West Local Government Area.

Governor Obaseki, however, addressed the media after the election of three delegates during the PDP Ward Congress in Ward 4 of Oredo Local Government Area. He acknowledged the unfortunate nature of Makinde’s withdrawal but emphasized that it wouldn’t compromise the credibility of the process.

Speaking on the situation, Obaseki said, “Withdrawing does not really remove the credibility of the process, and it is not just the process; what makes a process credible is the quality of the participation. You can see for yourself.”

Despite the challenges, Obaseki highlighted the significant turnout, with over 600 people participating in the congress, showcasing a heightened political consciousness among the populace. He remained resolute, stating that efforts to unify the party and pacify all stakeholders would persist, ensuring the PDP played a pivotal role in the country’s politics.
