In a notable turn of events, the Labour Party’s candidate, Daniel Asama, emerged victorious in the House of Representatives rerun election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency held last Saturday. The Returning Officer, Prof. James Garba, officially declared Asama as the winner, garnering an impressive 66,422 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Mohammed Gwani of the Peoples Redemption Party, who secured 61,670 votes.

Simultaneously, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) celebrated a triumph as Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang clinched victory in the Plateau North senatorial rerun election. The Returning Officer, Prof. Nestor Chagok, announced the results in the early hours of Monday, revealing that Prince Dachungyang of the ADP garnered a substantial 122,442 votes, defeating Yakub Muhammad Safiu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who acquired 53,980 votes.

Noteworthy performances also unfolded in the senatorial rerun, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Musa Giwa, amassing 39,132 votes. Meanwhile, Barr. Gyang Zi of the Labour Party secured 33,243 votes.

Recalling events from late last year, the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified the elections of PDP’s Musa Agah and Sen. Simon Mwadkon, mandating a rerun election within 90 days. Additionally, the exclusion of the PDP from the ballot paper by INEC was enforced, citing the aforementioned judgment.
