In response to the viral video depicting the sudden power outage, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) assured the public that efforts are underway to rectify and restore power supply at the airport.
According to FAAN’s official statement on its X handle, the outage occurred during the process of transitioning to backup power sources following the loss of electricity from the national grid. The agency assured the public that the electrical team has identified the challenges with the automatic switch-over and is diligently working to resolve the issue promptly.
The statement reads: “We experienced a 2-3 minute outage at Murtala Muhammed International Airport yesterday, February 2nd, 2024, while switching over to our backup power supply after losing power from the Grid.
“The electrical team has identified the challenges with the automatic switch over and is working judiciously to restore this immediately.
“We have put a plan in place leveraging the alternative sources of power to ensure we do not have a recurrence.”
Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, expressed regret over the blackout, stating that the agency faced an unexpected hiccup during the attempt to switch to the backup power supply, causing a temporary issue with the automatic switchover.
