US Envoy Declares Long-Term Commitment To Nigeria’s Economic Success
The Consul General of the United Nations in Nigeria, Will Stevens, has lauded the Akwa Ibom State government for its effective handling of challenges related to COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, and climate change. In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ekerete Udoh, Stevens reiterated the call for a robust partnership, echoing U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken’s recent message during his Nigeria visit. Stevens highlighted that the U.S. is dedicated to supporting Nigeria and its subnational entities in their economic growth.
He acknowledged Akwa Ibom’s remarkable work in addressing health issues and climate change, expressing appreciation for the state’s commitment. Stevens extended congratulations to Governor Umo Eno for his victory in the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial polls, emphasizing the credibility of the electoral process.
In response, Governor Eno expressed gratitude for the Consul General’s visit, expressing readiness for enhanced collaboration with American investors, particularly in sectors such as oil and gas, blue economy, agriculture, and tourism.
The visit also included an inspection of the Model Primary School at Christ the King School, scheduled for commissioning at the end of the month. Stevens commended Governor Eno for his visionary leadership in education and other developmental achievements within his eight months in office.
