Earlier reports from The PUNCH highlighted that despite repeated assurances from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the preparedness for today’s re-run elections, materials had not reached several polling units in the state as of 10:30 am.

INEC polling officers, although arriving late in numerous polling units, were notably without result sheets, especially in those areas with a substantial number of voters.

The affected polling units in Umuitodo Ward 3, where election result sheets are reportedly missing, include Polling Unit 010 in Okpaligbo, Polling Units 003, 004, and 005 at Central Primary School Imufu, and the Umu-Osia polling unit.

Emeka Madu, a community leader, expressed, “My people are currently in protest, and they have decided not to vote until the result sheets are provided. The police arrested Presiding Officers (POs) and took them to their stations to interrogate them about the missing result sheets for the affected polling units.”

He continued, “In Umu-Osia, similar to Imufu, the residents have declared that they will not vote until INEC officials supply result sheets. The electorate are withholding their votes, citing the absence of result sheets brought by INEC. At the Central Primary School Imufu, police detained INEC polling officers and transported them to their stations to ascertain why they arrived without result sheets. As we speak, the election has not commenced.”

Obi commended the rapid progress of the NDC, noting its achievement in conducting congresses, conventions, and primaries within a remarkably short period of about 90 days. He appealed for patience and sacrifice from all members, highlighting the importance of the party’s collective goals over individual outcomes.

With the primary process concluded, Obi stated that the focus must shift from internal competitions to building the NDC as a viable political alternative for 2027. He promised a different approach to leadership, characterized by inclusivity, compassion, and accountability.

This initiative aims to deepen political education and build policies that directly address the needs of the populace. He also acknowledged the significant challenges facing the nation, including insecurity and poor infrastructure, promising a detailed campaign message in due course.

NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas echoed Obi’s sentiments regarding the party’s rapid growth, which he described as extraordinary. He attributed this success to collective effort and divine guidance, likening the NDC to a vehicle for national rescue and renewal.

Party Leader Seriake Dickson praised the resilience of the members and announced a comprehensive reconciliation process to unite the party following the primaries. He encouraged those who did not win to maintain hope and remain committed to the party’s future opportunities.
