LP Candidate Exposes Lack Of Action Against Kidnapping-Accused Cops In Rivers

Delta State House of Assembly candidate, Harrison Gwamnishu, has raised concerns over the alleged lack of prosecution for three officers of the Rivers State Police Command involved in a recent kidnapping incident. The accused officers, namely ASP Doubara Edonyabo, ASP Talent Mungo, and Inspector Odey Michael, were reported to have abducted an individual in Aba, Abia State, before transporting him to Bayelsa State and later to Ughelli in Delta State, where they allegedly extorted 3000 USDT equivalent to N4,200,000.00 from the victim, according to a police statement……..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Despite their arrest and the subsequent return of the extorted money to the victim on January 18, Gwamnishu, who initially brought attention to the case, claimed in a recent post that the officers were still at large and unpunished due to their senior status within the police force.

In a statement released on January 22, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, acknowledged that the officers were facing disciplinary actions for violating the law and ethical standards of the police force. Iringe-Koko outlined that the two officers had been issued official queries, while the inspector was scheduled for an orderly room trial. To underscore their commitment to transparency and accountability, the command decided to publicly parade the officers before the press.

This incident follows previous reports of misconduct involving Rivers State policemen. In December, four operatives were implicated in the alleged abduction of a hotel worker in Port Harcourt. The victim, identified as Darlington, was reportedly arrested on his way to work, leading to the subsequent arrest of the officers after the matter was reported to the Divisional Police Officer.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) have officially formed a strategic alliance to combat the interconnected threats of drug trafficking and intellectual property piracy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Strategic Partnership Details

  • Formal Agreement: The two agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the NDLEA headquarters.

  • Operational Integration: The partnership includes provisions for intelligence sharing, coordinated joint operations, officer capacity building, and the exchange of technical resources.

  • Joint Working Committee: A committee will be established to ensure the agreement translates into tangible operational results.

Rationale for Collaboration

  • Shared Criminal Networks: NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noted that criminal syndicates often engage in both narcotics trafficking and the piracy of creative works, using proceeds from one illicit activity to finance the other.

  • Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.

  • Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.

  • Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.

The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
