The unfortunate event took place around 10:00 am on Wednesday, with the church’s auditorium ceiling overheating and collapsing, leading to the ignition of a fire. Amodu Shakiri, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a phone interview with our correspondent.

Shakiri disclosed that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Alausa and Ikeja Fire Stations, LASAMBUS, LASEMA, and Red Cross were among the agencies present at the scene. The fire was successfully contained within the church’s auditorium, preventing further damage to adjacent properties.

The extent of the damage included the destruction of the church’s furnishings and the auditorium. Passersby and onlookers were witness to the tragic incident, and some expressed their sentiments. One individual mockingly asked, “Where was Jesus when this happened?” Despite the loss, church members, led by Pastor Osunmakinde, remain optimistic, emphasizing gratitude that no lives were lost.

In a statement addressing the incident, Osunmakinde acknowledged the upcoming “Mercy Conference” and affirmed their determination to proceed despite the setback. In a statement on Thursday, NNPP National Secretary Ogini Olaposi said the party is not affiliated with the ADC and has no plans to join or merge with the coalition.

He clarified that the involvement of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and members of the Kwankwasiya Movement in ADC activities does not represent the NNPP as a political party.

Olaposi also claimed that only a minority of Kwankwasiya supporters followed Kwankwaso, insisting that many of them have since joined the APC.
