Upon reading the moving account of Salami’s challenges and her struggle with sickle cell anaemia, Mrs. Abiodun took swift action. The First Lady reached out to Salami and personally visited her home in Irolu, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.

A statement from the Press Secretary of the Ogun State First Lady, Kemi Oyeleye, highlighted the compassionate response. The statement revealed that Mrs. Abiodun, deeply moved by Salami’s plight, pledged to support her rehabilitation and smooth integration into society, providing proper care for her amputated arm.

Expressing her commitment, Mrs. Abiodun stated, “Immediately I read Balikis’ story in the Punch Newspapers, I was deeply moved by her plight because not only has she had to deal with the sickle cell disease, but she also now has to face the social stigma from society because of the amputation of her arm.”

The First Lady’s visit aimed not only to offer emotional support but also included practical assistance. Mrs. Abiodun pledged to support Salami’s clothing business through a cash grant and further offered to provide training and education in her chosen trade.

The intervention by the Ogun State First Lady reflects a compassionate effort to alleviate the challenges faced by individuals dealing with health issues, showcasing the impact of media coverage in mobilizing support for those in need.
