Mai Gemu and his gang had been responsible for terrorizing the FCT and neighboring states, prompting heightened security measures in the region. The news of the successful operation was disclosed by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi during the procession of approximately twenty criminal detainees held for various offenses across the nation.
Adejobi highlighted the significant progress made in fortifying the security landscape in the FCT with the recent launch of the Special Intervention Squad under the command of Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun. The Special Intervention Squad, in collaboration with other security forces, engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the bandits in the Bwari area of Abuja.
The Special Intervention Squad had previously taken control of a vital route in Usafa, Bwari Area Council, which the bandits used for transporting victims from Abuja to neighboring states like Kogi, Kaduna, Niger, and Nasarawa.
