In a Zoom meeting with the team, the Minister advised the players to temporarily disconnect from social media distractions and concentrate on their upcoming crucial match against Cameroon in the AFCON last-16. He emphasized the historic significance of potentially securing Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title and urged the team to remain focused for a memorable achievement.
In a Zoom meeting with the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, conveyed the nation’s ardent desire for the team’s success at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. The Minister urged the players to put aside social media distractions and maintain focus as they prepare to face Cameroon in the AFCON last-16 on Saturday.
“Please listen to the coach [Jose Peseiro]. Don’t lose focus, let your eyes remain on the ball. I will further suggest that at a moment like this, forget about social media. Don’t even look at your WhatsApp messages anymore so that you don’t lose concentration. You are going to find a lot of comments by Nigerians that are too eager to have you continue to win,” Enoh emphasized.
The Minister encouraged the Super Eagles to view the tournament as an opportunity to etch their names in history. He highlighted the potential historic achievement of winning Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title, urging the players to remain focused and make the most of each match.
“Our next match is against Cameroon, and I think that we should use every match to improve ourselves more and more,” Sen. John Owan Enoh concluded, emphasizing the significance of staying dedicated to securing a remarkable achievement for the country.

The scrutiny came to light when the NFF turned down an application filed under the Freedom of Information Act by the law firm Cromwell & Okeke. The firm had formally requested financial statements, utilization logs, and related records concerning the multi-billion naira disbursement.
In a letter dated August 18, 2026, and signed by Onoja Joshua, Esq., on behalf of the NFF General Secretary, the football body stated that it could not fulfill the request. The federation explained that all relevant documentation regarding the ₦12 billion fund has been handed over to the EFCC and ICPC as part of their ongoing inquiries.

Reports indicate that the directive was issued on Thursday during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction along Arterial Road N16, which links Ring Road II to Ring Road III. The action came after the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, briefed the minister on buildings encroaching directly onto the project’s path.
Emphasizing that no illegal development will be tolerated to compromise critical public infrastructure or alter the Abuja Master Plan, Wike instructed the Department of Development Control to clear the obstructions right away.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. How can it be like this? It’s a road and not a layout,” the minister stated.
Describing Arterial Road N16 as a vital project slated for completion by December, Wike also inspected progress on the five-kilometer Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road and a Magistrate Court under construction in Garki.
