Tomorrow, Ambassador Judith Sefi Atta is set to receive a well-deserved award in Abuja from the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria, ARCAN, recognizing her outstanding contributions….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

My first encounter with her dates back to 1993 when, wrapped in the fervor of Catholic celebration, I tied the knot in Rome. At the time, I was based in London, and she held the position of the Nigerian Ambassador to Italy. I vividly recall the warm reception she extended to my mother and me.

Remarkably, my bond with Auntie Judith has endured far longer than my relationship with my former spouse. Now that we both reside in Abuja, I have the privilege of frequently connecting with her.

The significance of praise from professional peers who intimately understand your work is immeasurable. In a tribute marking her 90th birthday, fellow former ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali lauded her achievements. Born as a princess of Ebirraland in what is now Kogi State, Ambassador Judith Atta emerged as a trailblazing female graduate in Nigeria’s Northern Province. Her family’s lineage includes notable figures such as the first indigenous Head of Service and Secretary to the Federal Government, Abdulazeez Atta, and the first Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Abdulmalik Atta.

Amidst an illustrious family, Ambassador Judith Atta had to strive to distinguish herself, and her brilliance has never waned. She boasts a series of academic triumphs both domestically and internationally. Notably, she became the first Nigerian Ambassador to UNESCO in Paris, the first female Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of External Affairs (now Foreign Affairs), the inaugural female ambassador to Italy, and the first Minister of Women Affairs, among numerous other accomplishments.

While Ambassador Atta’s public service record is indeed spectacular, her personal life has been marked by challenges. The Nigerian Civil War cut short her marriage to the renowned poet Christopher Okigbo (1932-1967) when he was just 35 years old. Despite the adversities, Ambassador Judith Sefi Atta’s enduring light continues to shine.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
