Kano: We Accepted Supreme Court Ruling, But Didn’t Agree With It – APC

The Supreme Court, last Friday, delivered verdicts that significantly impacted the political landscape in Kano and Plateau states.
In Kano State, the apex court overturned earlier tribunal and appeal court decisions, thereby upholding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the legitimately elected governor.
Similarly, in Plateau State, the court validated the election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
When asked whether the APC accepted the decisions by the Supreme Court, Morka said, “Every time a high court upturned the decision of a lower court it means that the high court has interrogated the decision and the rational of the lower court.
“That is the nature of appellate process. The high court is vested with the authority to review the decision of the lower court.
“So any time the high court does not uphold the decision of the lower court there is nothing spectacular. This does not mean to say that the lower courts did something untoward or that would compromise their integrity.
“In my statement reacting to the verdict I said that the final court of the land has spoken. We accepted the verdict not because we necessarily agreed with all the legal arguments made.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the violent ambush targeting the convoy of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi during his solidarity visit to Benue State. Speaking through a statement issued on Wednesday by his campaign spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, the former Vice President labeled the incident unacceptable, anti-democratic, and deeply shameful, while urging security agencies to launch an immediate investigation and bring the culprits to justice.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Elaborating on the incident via the released statement, Okonkwo emphasized:
“HE Atiku Abubakar strongly condemns the violent attack on Peter Obi, who was brutally prevented from reaching bereaved families of Yelwata, Benue State, to offer his condolences over the persistent terrorist attacks on them. Such acts are unacceptable, anti-democratic, and deeply shameful. He calls on the authorities to investigate urgently, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure the safety and freedom of all leaders to carry out their duties without intimidation.”
This development follows intense friction that gripped Benue State after suspected thugs deliberately barricaded access routes meant for Peter Obi’s entourage. Obi had traveled to the region intending to offer solidarity and condolences to residents of the Yelwata community following a series of recurring security breaches and attacks. The obstruction was brought to public attention by Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, who utilized social media platform to sound the alarm shortly after the former Anambra State governor and his delegation arrived in the state. Umoh reported that the blockade took place along Boko Road near the Nigerian Air Force Base, effectively blocking the convoy from advancing further into the area, and supported her claims with a video recording showcasing the road obstruction.

Taking to task the decision to field Obi during the 2023 elections, Sowore questioned the integrity of pushing a candidate whose competence is now seemingly being called into question by his own former running mate. He argued that relying heavily on youth popularity and clever political packaging deceived the public, warning that superficial appeal should not mask a lack of genuine capability.
Voicing his critical stance on the matter, Sowore stated:
“That was why I confronted them. I’m saying to you: if you knew that your candidate, Peter Obi, was not competent to be president in 2023, why did you have to drag Nigeria through that whole process of presenting such a candidate when you knew it and are now saying it?”
He further maintained that voters need to closely examine the deceptive mechanics behind political popularity rather than just the numbers, adding:
“This whole idea that he was popular and youth followed him, It’s all part of the campaigning that brought us here today. It’s exactly that: you can package a candidate and then discover that everything you did in packaging made people fall for what was false and fraudulent. Then, that person who was the heartbeat from that effort has now come out and said, ‘The person that was presented to you in 2023 wasn’t who you thought he was. If he were to be president today, your problems would be compounded.’ That’s what brought this conversation we’re having today, and I’m saying we should interrogate that and discuss it. I don’t think we’re discussing why he was popular; we’re discussing how he became popular and on which grounds he became popular. That was my position then: that all these things were packaged to fool the public and fool some youths.”
