In an effort to dispel misinformation, ASP Mansir Hassan emphasized the actual events, stating, “To counter the misinformation flow, the Command wishes to set the record straight. There was a heavy gun duel along Kaduna-Abuja expressway between security operatives and armed bandits on Jan. 6, at 23:30 hours or thereabout.”
He continued, “The incident occurred when the armed bandits in large numbers attempted to cross the said expressway at Dogon Fili area heading towards Jere axis and were engaged in a fierce shootout by the well-alerted security agents who dislodged the hoodlums and ensured a lot of them only escaped but with gunshot wounds.”
ASP Mansir Hassan urged the public in the affected area to remain vigilant and report anyone with suspected bullet injuries to the nearest police station or security outfit.
During the confrontation, commuters on the highway found themselves caught in a crossfire, resulting in six individuals sustaining varying degrees of bullet injuries. All injured persons received prompt medical attention at the hospital.
Describing the incident as an unfortunate isolated occurrence, ASP Mansir Hassan assured the public that the Kaduna-Abuja expressway has been fortified for commuter use. He urged the public to disregard the fear-inducing narrative circulating.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Dabigi, emphasized the importance of journalists verifying their stories with relevant security agencies before publication. “This will ensure that only the right and correct information is available to the public,” added the command spokesman.
