Among those present were Johnson Abolagba, a former House of Representatives member, and Kabiru Adjoto, a former House of Assembly Speaker. Other attendees included Otunba Olu Fashanu, Dr.
Bolaji Ojebuobuo, Joe Ekpenkhio, Omo Ezomon, Uyi Maiaika, Henry Tenebe, serving and former Edo State PDP functionaries, and all LGA council chairmen.
The meeting endorsed Ighodalo, reportedly backed by Governor Godwin Obaseki, as the preferred aspirant for the PDP ticket in the upcoming governorship election.
Addressing his supporters in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government, Deputy Governor Shaibu considered the meeting a disrespect to his position. He asserted that any meeting in Edo North held without his knowledge is deemed invalid.
Shaibu emphasized the hierarchical structure of the PDP and urged supporters to remain calm, stating that unity would be crucial after the primaries to win the main election in September.

Dangyatin assumed the position during the conference’s annual congress and executive elections held in Abuja. The body aims to enhance coordination among APC Speakers, promote party ideals, foster unity, and support democracy, peace, and national development.
Other key positions filled include the Ebonyi State Assembly Speaker as Deputy Chairman (South), the Nasarawa State Assembly Speaker as Deputy Chairman (North), and the Ondo State Assembly Speaker as Treasurer. Six zonal vice chairmen were also elected, including Ogun State’s Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide for the South-West zone and Plateau State’s Speaker for the North-Central zone. The new executive members are set to be sworn in on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Jigawa Governor Malam Umar Namadi congratulated Dangyatin, calling the election well deserved and expressing confidence that he would strengthen collaboration among APC members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The footage captures Tambuwal declining a seat offered by former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, pointing at the party flag and reportedly asking for it to be removed. After intervention from Ganduje and others, Tambuwal eventually sat, though the brief standoff has sparked reactions online.
Tambuwal, also a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, is now a key figure in the ADC, which is positioned to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s APC in the 2027 elections.
Separately, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged ADC supporters and the Obidient Movement to unite, saying a “child of nobody” can achieve greatness without backing from any cabal. He made the call during a Saturday meeting in Asaba, Delta State.

Obi made the call as he urged supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement to close ranks and work together ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement on Sunday, Obi said he delivered the message on Saturday during a joint meeting with ADC and Obidient Movement members in Asaba, Delta State.
The former Anambra State governor said the objective is to build a capable government focused on tackling Nigeria’s major challenges, including insecurity, poverty, education, healthcare and hunger.
He stressed that national resources must serve all citizens, not a privileged few.
According to him, “On Saturday, February 7, in Asaba, I met with the ADC and the Obidient Movement and stressed the need to unite as one family in pursuit of a common goal — building a new and united Nigeria.
“Nigeria today requires unity across regions. We must come together to install leadership with capacity, compassion and commitment to address security, poverty, education, healthcare and hunger.
“Our politics must shift from transactions and rent-seeking to using national resources to create shared prosperity. In the new Nigeria we seek, a child of nobody can rise to greatness without the support of any cabal.
“A new Nigeria is POssible.”
