He specifically warned against the negative impact of social media, emphasizing that it has frequently been utilized to disseminate false and harmful information. The COAS delivered this directive during his operational visit to the Headquarters of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army on January 9, 2024.
During the visit, he urged the troops from the 82 Division and the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA to remain loyal and dedicated to their constitutional duties as outlined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
As communicated by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the Army Chief informed the troops that the government had settled the outstanding unpaid Group Life Assurance dating back to 2011. He underscored the importance of reciprocating these motivational welfare interventions by maintaining loyalty, discipline, and enhancing operational effectiveness in addressing security challenges in the country.
While commending the resilience and sacrifices of the troops, Lagbaja cautioned them against succumbing to the negative influence of social media, reiterating its potential to spread misinformation. He emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to discipline and its zero tolerance for illegalities, stating that any form of indiscipline would not be tolerated as troops operate in their respective host communities.
The COAS highlighted commendable interventions by the Federal Government in troops’ welfare and the provision of combat enablers. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the people and government of Enugu and Ebonyi States for their support and positive relationship with the troops of the 82 Division of the NA.
