Initial reports had suggested that the Federal Government earmarked N200 million and N100 million for palliative items allocated to senators and representatives, respectively.

The Senate strongly denied that its members had received the palliatives for subsequent distribution to their constituents, while the House of Representatives acknowledged that some of its members had received their share.

The Presidency clarified that only food items, not cash, were approved for allocation to federal lawmakers by President Bola Tinubu. The distribution was intended to be managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, although an official from the ministry claimed ignorance of any food item distribution.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Adeyemi Adaramodu, contradicted media reports, stating that he had not seen any distributed food items. However, an inside source affirmed that the allocation of rice to senators for distribution to their constituents was underway.

On the House of Representatives’ side, the spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi (Jnr), clarified that the procurement of palliatives was ongoing, with some constituencies having received their share while others were still in the process.

Representative Henry Okojie dismissed reports of rice allocations for his constituency as false, stating that neither he nor his constituents received any bags of rice. He clarified that the proposed funds from the Federal Government were yet to be released for procurement.

In response to the controversy, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, emphasized that President Tinubu approved only food items, not cash, for distribution. He refuted claims of hoarding by National Assembly members and assured that the distribution would be fair and timely.

Contrary to the statements from lawmakers, an official from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security claimed to have no information about any palliative distribution through the ministry.

Show Us The Money! Atiku Demands Full List Of ₦501 Billion Power Bond Beneficiaries In Massive Transparency War!.

Published

on

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Atiku Abubakar, has called on the federal government to publicly disclose the beneficiaries of the ₦501 billion bond issued to clear debts owed to electricity generation companies (GenCos). This demand follows reports from the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) that the bond funds have not been fully disbursed, despite earlier government assurances.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released by his special assistant on public communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku referenced the recent disclosure by APGC CEO, Dr. Joy Ogaji, that the federal government still owes GenCos approximately ₦6.5 trillion. Atiku described Ogaji’s comment—liking the token payments to “rubbing oil on a crying child’s mouth to imply that he had eaten”—as a perfect reflection of the current administration’s approach: “grand announcements, impressive figures, glossy headlines, and very little substance.

Atiku characterized the situation as a “crisis of credibility,” questioning why the public is repeatedly asked to celebrate fresh borrowing to resolve problems the government claims it already solved. He challenged the administration to publish a detailed breakdown of all payments made under the ₦501 billion bond, including:

  • The names of all GenCos that received payments.

  • The specific amounts paid to each beneficiary.

  • The dates of these transactions.

  • The outstanding balances still owed.

Furthermore, the former vice-president accused the Tinubu administration of relying on “ceremonies” and “headlines” of borrowing rather than addressing the root issues in the power sector. He called for a comprehensive public audit of all power sector intervention funds by oversight bodies, including the National Assembly and the Auditor-General of the Federation.

“Nigerians deserve to know precisely how much has been borrowed, how much has been disbursed, who received the money, and why the debts continue to rise despite repeated claims of settlement,” Atiku stated, emphasizing that public money cannot “disappear into official press statements.
