This strategic development is expected to result in the corporation operating six rail journeys daily on the standard gauge train network.
Addressing the new initiative, the NRC DG emphasized that the current limitation in night operations does not align with the optimal functioning of trains, which are intended to operate at all hours.
Despite the preference of some travelers for evening journeys, security concerns have constrained the NRC to daytime operations.
The NRC DG outlined plans to reintroduce passenger and freight trains on key routes such as Port-Harcourt to Aba, Lagos to Kano, and Kaduna, particularly due to the presence of dry ports in these areas.
Furthermore, the NRC aims to increase the frequency of train trips to six on major routes, including Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe, and Abuja-Kaduna.
This enhancement translates to three round trips per day, totaling six trips, thereby expanding and optimizing the rail services offered by the National Rail Corporation.
