In his address, Umahi cautioned the residents not to oppose the Governor’s directives, highlighting his role as the political leader in the state.

Notably, Governor Umahi’s endorsement does not extend to his younger brother, Austin Umahi, who recently announced his bid for the Ebonyi South senatorial district seat.

This development comes ahead of the scheduled February 2024 re-run elections, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to fill vacant seats in federal and state constituencies.

The vacancy in the Ebonyi South Senatorial district arose from David Umahi’s appointment as the Minister of Works by President Bola Tinubu.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, responding to the ministerial appointments of David Umahi and Ibrahim Geidam, declared their seats in the upper legislative chamber vacant.

2027 Race Heats Up As ADC Tables New Request Before INEC, Timetable On The Way.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the deadline for the conduct of its primary elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party also disclosed that it will release its primaries timetable within the week, despite facing ongoing internal challenges.

This was made known by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, during an interview in Abuja on Friday.

Idigo explained that prolonged internal disputes and legal battles had disrupted the party’s electoral preparations, significantly reducing the time available for planning.

He stated, “The prolonged legal battle cost us valuable time. It is only fair that INEC provides a window for the ADC to conduct credible primaries for all aspirants.”

Despite the setbacks, he assured that the party is actively pushing ahead with its internal arrangements.

“We are working round the clock, and we will be releasing our primary timetable within the week,” he added.

The ADC further urged INEC to uphold fairness in the electoral process by making allowances for parties affected by unforeseen delays.

According to Idigo, the commission has a duty to ensure a level playing field for all political parties.

He also revealed that the party has experienced significant expansion, claiming over four million Nigerians have registered via its online membership platform.

“As it stands today, the ADC is fast becoming one of the largest political platforms in Nigeria’s democratic history,” he said.

Idigo reiterated the party’s determination to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.

“We are fully prepared to dislodge the APC, regardless of whatever stumbling blocks may be placed on our path to victory,” he declared.

He further described the recent Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership as a major relief that has strengthened its stability.

“We will continue to pursue policies that serve the best interests of Nigerians and work towards building a just and egalitarian society,” Idigo concluded.
