The Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Ayuba Wandai, revealed this information during a meeting with officials of the state Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday, January 2…CONTINUE READING

Wandai clarified that the current chairmen and councillors were elected on October 6, 2021, and inaugurated on October 8, 2021, for a three-year term concluding on October 7.
“This is our second engagement; the first was in August 2023 in line with the law establishing the Commission.
“The law has given them the mandate to begin preparation for the election one year before the expiration of the tenure of the officials.
“The commission is a law-abiding institution that has continued to promote adherence to the laws governing the conduct of LGs election in the state,” Wandai noted.
In another development, Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-West, asserted that Nigeria lacks a ‘functional’ political party during an interview with Arise Television on Monday.
According to Lukman, political parties are only active during election periods.
He said, “We need to make our democracy functional, and our democracy cannot be functional if it’s reduced to only periodic elections.
“Elections only take place every four years, and the substantial issue regarding making democracy work is to make elected leaders accountable, representative, and responsive to the interests of Nigerians. This is the core business and function of political parties.
“As of today, none of our parties is functional, and as long as we allow the main business of political parties to produce candidates, things can’t change.
“The constitution of all parties states that after elections, political parties’ business includes promoting and developing policies of government in such a way that they reflect the party’s manifestos. As of today, the manifestos of political parties in the country are theories.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
