According to Tunji, the ministry, its agencies, and the Electricity Distribution Company worked diligently during the festive season to improve power supply, marking a positive development. Adelabu emphasized that recognizing electricity’s critical role in economic growth, the initial three months of his tenure focused on diagnosis, stakeholder consultations, and strategy formulation.

He outlined the ministry’s primary focus on enhancing distribution and transmission infrastructure to minimize technical and commercial losses. Adelabu acknowledged the significant challenge of liquidity in the electricity market and mentioned ongoing efforts to review the implementation process of a cost-reflective tariff. He assured that the government would continue to subsidize power supply for vulnerable members of society.

Closing the meter gap, intervening in distribution infrastructure, supplying transformers to communities without financial burden, and prioritizing rural electrification with solar-powered mini and micro grids were highlighted as key initiatives. Adelabu underscored the reactivation of the Presidential Power Initiative Siemens Project to strengthen the national grid and the implementation of Eastern and Western super grid projects to enhance electricity supply to demand centers.

Adelabu disclosed plans to reconstitute the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in the short term, separating transmission services from system and market operations. The minister emphasized generating at installed capacity as a goal for government-owned plants, encouraging private investments, and focusing on off-grid and distributed generation using renewables such as solar Photovoltaic (PV) plants, small hydro plants, and wind farms.

Addressing power theft and vandalism, Adelabu stressed the need for joint efforts as a national responsibility, informing the National Security Adviser of recorded cases and emphasizing collective action to eliminate setbacks.

End Of The Road: Ex-NSPM Boss Faces Bribery Charges ln UK After Supreme Court Ruling.

Published

on

The Supreme Court has greenlit the extradition of Emmanuel Okoyomon, the former Managing Director and CEO of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPM), to the United Kingdom to answer to bribery allegations. In a unanimous ruling, a five-judge panel presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba dismissed Okoyomon’s appeal, declaring it meritless. The court upheld the previous 2016 Court of Appeal ruling, with Justice Mohammed Idris reading the lead judgment authored by Justice Emmanuel Agim, which affirmed that there were no grounds to overturn the lower court’s decisions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The legal battle stems from a request by the Attorney General of the Federation for Okoyomon’s surrender to the UK regarding his alleged involvement in a bribery scandal linked to Securency International Pty of Australia, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the NSPM. Although the Federal High Court initially approved the extradition in May 2015, Okoyomon sought to block the move, citing a denial of his right to a fair hearing.

The Court of Appeal previously rejected his challenge, emphasizing that under the London Scheme for Extradition within the Commonwealth—which is reflected in Nigeria’s Extradition Act—the country is obligated to surrender individuals wanted for such offenses. The appellate court further dismissed his claims regarding his citizenship status, ruling it irrelevant to the core merits of the extradition application. With this final Supreme Court decision, the long-standing legal challenge has been brought to a close.

End O The Road? DLA Refunds ₦10.8 Million To Presidential Aspirant In Shock Move.

Published

on

Following her resignation from the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) on May 28, 2026, former presidential aspirant Mrs. Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju has confirmed the receipt of a ₦10.8 million refund from the party. This payment covers a portion of the presidential nomination fee she originally paid in April 2026, with a remaining balance of ₦1.2 million still outstanding.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Busari-Akinnadeju resigned citing the party’s move to force a consensus candidate—a process she contends violated the Electoral Act 2026, which requires the written consent of all cleared aspirants for such a selection method. She alleged that the party leadership utilized disciplinary actions and administrative barriers to sideline her after she refused to support the consensus model.

While she expressed gratitude for the partial refund, Busari-Akinnadeju maintained that the reimbursement does not resolve the underlying issues regarding the integrity of the party’s selection process.

“The return of the money does not return the integrity of the process,” she stated, noting that the refund serves as an admission that the initial collection of funds was indefensible rather than a remedy for the procedural flaws. She further emphasized that her primary concern now lies with ensuring fair political competition for future aspirants who may lack the platform to demand accountability.

Following this event, Busari-Akinnadeju announced that she is moving forward as a non-partisan figure, launching a new initiative called the “Dare Agenda” to advocate for purposeful leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections. She credited public support and media attention for pressuring the DLA to issue the refund, stating, “The strength of public attention is what made this refund possible”.
