The new vehicle was presented to the Edo State Chapter of the Labour Party, specifically in support of the recently constituted Edo South Mobilisation Committee (“ESMC”), chaired by Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ativie.

The committee’s chairperson expressed gratitude for the generous donation and assured Mr. Akpata that the vehicle would be pivotal to achieving the committee’s immediate and long-term objectives, centred on the meticulous training and capacity development of existing Labour Party members as well as the mass recruitment and mobilisation of new members.

“We are truly grateful for Mr. Akpata’s unwavering support. This Sienna will play a crucial role in our efforts to train and sensitise our members on the intricacies of electioneering and election-day procedures, as well as embark on broad mobilisation of new members across all seven Local Government Areas (“LGAs”) that make up Edo South Senatorial Zone.”

Rt. Hon. Ativie promised her committee would immediately deploy the minivan for its intended purposes, and mobilisation, training, and sensitization across the Edo South LGAs will commence imminently.

In brief remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Olumide Akpata reiterated his commitment to building the Labour Party. “My sole ambition is to help position the Labour Party as the undisputed party of the people in Edo State, ….. and I will not rest until we have the formidable structure, adequate resources, and overwhelming momentum required to deliver electoral victory for the Party in 2024. My principal goal is to keep building the Party until it emerges as the party to beat in 2024. I believe in the values and principles of the Labour Party and am committed to contributing every resource at my disposal to enable it to succeed in the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial elections.”

With the addition of this 21st Sienna, Mr. Akpata has now donated a total of 22 vehicles to the Labour Party in Edo State, including one brand new Toyota Hiace bus. The vehicles have not only significantly impacted the Party’s mobility in the state but also its overall visibility across all 18 LGAs.

The ESMC was constituted at the instance of the State Chairman of the Labour Party. Its mandate includes extensive grassroots training and sensitization of party faithfuls while addressing challenges that may have limited the Party’s performance in previous polls in the state. It is tasked with training and capacitating party members to navigate the complexities of electioneering and election-day procedures whilst reviewing and learning from past experiences.

The vehicle donated is not Mr. Akpata’s first intervention with the ESMC. In December 2023, he contributed N3,000,000 (three million naira only) to seed the committee’s activities and has undertaken to always be available to support all initiatives that will deliver its primary mandate.

As the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial race hots up, Mr. Akpata’s unfettered support for the ESMC underscores his commitment to the Labour Party’s overarching goal, i.e., to emerge victorious in the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial polls.
