The processing fees for renewing registration of locally manufactured products saw a substantial 65% reduction, decreasing from N68,000 to N44,200. Similarly, the processing fee for foreign products experienced a 45% cut, lowering it from $1,000 to $450. Additionally, a 10% tariff structure review for facility and inspection fees in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) was granted.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of NAFDAC, stated that the fee adjustments were intended to help MSMEs weather the economic impacts of fuel subsidy removal and enhance the business environment’s ease of operation in Nigeria. The downward review of administrative charges for late renewal of NAFDAC-regulated products aims to create a more investment-friendly atmosphere in response to prevailing economic conditions.

Adeyeye emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to supporting both existing and new MSMEs, ensuring that the sector’s growth remains resilient amid economic challenges. She expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic potential, indicating that NAFDAC’s measures are aligned with the government’s longstanding commitment to fostering MSMEs.

The adjustments are viewed as strategic palliatives, demonstrating NAFDAC’s proactive response to the present economic realities. Adeyeye affirmed the agency’s dedication to providing support for MSMEs during challenging times and fostering a conducive environment for their sustainable growth.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Dr. Habib Mai Lemo, the movement emphasized that local residents should not be deprived of vital development projects due to political differences.

Key points from the statement include:

  • Suspended Infrastructure: The movement questioned why the Kano State Ministry of Works appears to target and heavily scrutinize projects facilitated by opposition lawmakers, challenging the state to prove that uniform standards are being applied to all constituency projects regardless of political affiliation.

  • Targeted Council Suspensions: Kwankwasiyya also raised alarms over the suspension of three councillors in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area—who have disputed project-related claims against them—as well as two councillors from Tarauni Local Government Area.

  • Political Intimidation: The movement alleged that the council suspensions are politically motivated penalties designed to punish local officials for refusing to defect to the ruling camp, warning that such actions threaten fundamental democratic principles.
