Nigerians React As INEC Promotes Over 5,000 Staff Amidst Director Terminations (Full Details)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stirred reactions as it announced the promotion of 5,196 of its staff members nationwide. The disclosure, made available to journalists on Thursday, revealed a breakdown of the promotions, including the elevation of 55 Deputy Directors on Grade Level 16 to the rank of Directors on Grade Level 17, and the promotion of 54 Assistant Directors on GL 15 to Deputy Director Cadre on GL 16…..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Additionally, 338 officers on GL 14 were promoted to Assistant Directors on GL 15, while a significant portion of the promotions affected 4,749 officers ranging from GL 7 to 13.
However, the announcement also included the directive for four directors of the Commission to proceed on terminal leave. This decision, according to National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, stems from a Federal Government directive issued on July 27, 2023. The directive mandates directors with eight years or more of service to retire from the public sector.
Two of the directors on terminal leave served as Heads of Departments at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, while the other two were deployed as Administrative Secretaries in the State Offices. Olumekun clarified that Clinical Officers in the Medical cadre were exempted from the Federal Government Retirement Policy, citing a circular dated September 7, 2023.
Nigerians have expressed diverse opinions on social media platforms, with some commending the promotion of INEC staff and others questioning the timing and criteria for the terminal leave directives. The developments have sparked discussions about the impact on the electoral body’s operations and the potential implications for upcoming elections.
