During the handover ceremony in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, highlighted the agency’s response to the challenges faced by the community and its dedication to easing the effects of recurring floods in various areas of the state.

Represented by Dr. Week Doodei, NDDC Director of Procurement, and Godknows Alamieyeseigha, Director of the Bayelsa State Office of the Commission, Ogbuku handed over the relief materials to representatives of the affected communities. The items, including food, household necessities, farm inputs, and livelihood items like canoes, fishing nets, and hooks, aim to assist residents in coping with their losses.

Ogbuku reassured the community leaders that the NDDC remains committed to addressing challenges in the Niger Delta region, stating, “We share in the pains of the victims of the flooding in Bayelsa State. We realize that they have lost a lot which cannot be replaced.”

Emphasizing the NDDC’s broader role in social services beyond infrastructure development, he urged responsible distribution of the palliatives. Ogbuku warned against hoarding or diverting items, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to monitoring the distribution process to ensure that aid reaches the affected areas.

Community leaders were directed to oversee the transportation and distribution of the relief materials to different local government areas and communities, ensuring that the assistance reaches those most in need.

Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris Announces Fresh Appointment.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has appointed former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Alhaji Jafar Jega, as Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, and made available to journalists on Friday, April 17, 2026.

According to the statement, Jega will lead a 19-member government delegation tasked with coordinating and supervising all Hajj operations for Kebbi State. The committee is expected to ensure smooth planning, effective coordination, and the welfare of pilgrims throughout the exercise.

“‘It’s Not the President, It’s His Team’ – Senator Ndume”.

It also mandates the delegation to liaise with relevant agencies, including the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, and airline operators, to ensure full compliance with operational agreements.

Other responsibilities include overseeing the conduct of the pilgrimage and advising the government on improvements for future exercises.

Members of the delegation include former Deputy Senate Leader Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, senior security and legal officials, religious leaders, and key stakeholders across the state.
