Northern Senators Forum-Calls On Federal Government To Apprehend-Perpetrators Of Jos Killings (Details)
Senators representing the 19 northern states, operating as the Northern Senators Forum, have urged the Federal Government to identify, apprehend, and mete out punishment to those responsible for the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State. Earlier reports from Nivo News on Tuesday revealed that the Plateau State Police Command disclosed that 96 individuals lost their lives and 221 houses were set ablaze during the Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State. The attacks, carried out by gunmen in 15 communities of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, also resulted in the burning of eight vehicles.
In an official statement signed by Senator Kawu Sumaila, the spokesperson for the Northern Senators Forum, the lawmakers condemned the acts and extended condolences to the affected families and the state government. The statement emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation, allocation of necessary resources to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, and ensuring that justice prevails.
The senators stressed the importance of unity during these challenging times, urging the federal government to consolidate investigation reports of similar incidents and take preventive actions. They emphasized the role of citizens in upholding peace, unity, and understanding, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where diversity is celebrated, and differences are resolved through dialogue.
