Regarding the peace pact, which has sparked mixed reactions, the governor clarified that it is not a death sentence but a pathway toward lasting peace and stability in the state. He reaffirmed his acceptance of the presidential peace proclamation and pledged to implement its spirit and provisions in a manner that restores political stability without compromising the collective interests and democratic values of the people.
Governor Fubara acknowledged the positive steps taken by both parties in the implementation process, such as the withdrawal of the purported impeachment notice and the release of previously withheld allowances for members of the state House of Assembly. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his intervention, recognizing the President’s commitment to peace in Rivers State through the Presidential Peace Proclamation issued on December 18, 2023.
In the context of the Christmas celebration, Governor Fubara urged residents to embrace the values of Jesus Christ, emphasizing selflessness, genuine love, and true forgiveness as taught by Christ. Looking ahead to 2024, he expressed optimism about the rapid transformation of the state through the completion of ongoing projects and the commencement of new initiatives outlined in the 2024 budget, encompassing both infrastructure and human capital development.
