Nigerians React As Minister Orders-Investigation Into Alleged Misconduct By Nigeria Immigration Service Officials
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has directed an investigation into the conduct of certain officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following allegations of misconduct. Okediji recounted on December 12 that he was stopped for a search, asked for a settlement fee of $40 due to an expired Nigerian passport, and later discovered that $500 was missing from his belongings.
In response to these allegations, Aridegbe Adedotun, the NIS spokesperson, announced on Saturday that the agency would be implementing changes at the borders to enhance operational efficiency. Caroline Adepoju, the NIS Comptroller-General, revealed that the Minister of Interior expressed displeasure with the reported unprofessional activities at the Seme border and has called for immediate action to identify those responsible.
Adepoju assured that if the allegations are substantiated, the implicated officials will face severe consequences. She emphasized the commitment of the NIS to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and service to the nation.
To address any shortcomings, the Comptroller-General stated that she would personally oversee the implementation of changes at the borders, reinforcing a culture of accountability within the service.

The pledge was conveyed by a former lawmaker and ex-Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, after he represented the candidate at an engagement with members of the Arewa community in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area.
Oyintiloye said the plan is aimed at strengthening the link between government and grassroots communities, ensuring public policies reflect citizens’ real needs.
He added that all groups would be actively involved in both policy formulation and implementation to drive development in the state.
Oyebamiji also promised continued engagement with farmers, traders, artisans, and non-indigene communities as key stakeholders in governance.
Responding, leaders of the Arewa community commended past inclusion efforts and pledged support for the APC candidate ahead of the election.

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.
One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.
Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.
Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.
In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.
He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.
According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.
Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.

The dispute involves three individuals — Tony Alile, Kennedy Odion, and Deacon Nosa Ehima — all laying claim to the position of state chairman.
Alile, who emerged from the party’s state congress, said efforts have been intensified to activate internal conflict resolution mechanisms to settle grievances and promote unity ahead of future elections.
Speaking at a political gathering in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area, he said the move was necessary to strengthen cohesion within the party amid its rising profile.
“We are aware of concerns arising from my emergence as chairman, but I assure members that the party has activated its internal conflict resolution framework to address all issues amicably,” he said.
He added that the party remains focused on unity, inclusiveness, and building a strong platform capable of winning elections and delivering good governance.
Alile also noted that the growing influx of members reflects public dissatisfaction with existing political structures, insisting that ADC is positioning itself as a credible alternative.
Other speakers at the event described recent defections into the party as evidence of shifting political sentiments, saying the ADC is gaining support due to growing calls for better governance and development.
