Nigerians React As Peace Project Brings Together-South East Governors And Traditional Rulers

The event is also set to include traditional rulers, opinion leaders, captains of industry, and distinguished personalities from various political affiliations.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Mrs. Mary Ikoku, the Chairman of the Media and Communication Committee of the project, disclosed that the occasion coincides with a homecoming reception for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
According to her, the initiative aims to appreciate Kalu’s dedication to public service and exceptional contributions to the South East and the nation.
The event is organized by the Peace in South East Project and the people of Bende Local Government Area of Abia, the Federal constituency of the Deputy Speaker.
Mrs. Ikoku emphasized the project’s commitment to a non-kinetic strategy, urging the Nigerian military to adjust its operational approach by fostering trust and cooperation through engagement with the local populace.
She stressed the importance of dialogue and negotiation for lasting peace in the South East. Mr. Ogbonna Ukuku, Head of Programmes, highlighted the significance of the program as the formal declaration of peace in the South East, welcoming participants from across the country.
The thematic areas of focus include agriculture, education, leadership, good governance, sports, entertainment, culture, and tourism.
