Dickson highlighted that in 2016, Sirika proposed an aviation roadmap with a national carrier as the flagship project, committing to completing it by the end of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The former minister reportedly engaged Ethiopian Airlines for an aircraft to be utilized by Nigerians as part of Nigeria Air. Despite significant funds spent during the last administration, the project’s status remains unclear, prompting concerns about accountability and potential recurrent expenditure.
The motion was approved, instructing the committee to also invite the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to provide information on the Nigeria Air project and its certification. In September, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had suspended the Nigeria Air project and the planned concessioning of some airports.
