COMMANDING PEACE: Inside The APC’s Desperate Strategy To Stop The Candidates’ List Meltdown!.

on

In response to widespread internal discontent regarding its candidates’ list, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly granted state governors the authority to oversee the distribution and completion of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms. While the National Working Committee (NWC) initially sent these forms to State Working Committees, it is anticipated that the forms will primarily be directed to candidates favored by governors and other influential stakeholders.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Party National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka noted that the APC has received over 700 petitions related to the disputed primaries. Morka emphasized that the party’s current focus is ensuring all candidates finish their documentation ahead of the INEC deadline on July 11, noting that the public release of the final candidate list is not the immediate priority.

To address the fallout from the primaries, APC governors held an emergency meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, presided over by Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Senator Hope Uzodinma, with plans to consult the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda. This move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s reported commitment to allowing governors significant influence over candidate selection within their respective states.

Several state-level developments have emerged from this process:

  • Gombe: Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has handed INEC nomination forms to the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, as well as National Assembly candidates.

  • Lagos: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his successor.

  • Nasarawa: Governor Abdullahi Sule has endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada, a choice that has faced opposition from some party members.

  • Borno: Following reconciliation efforts headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Babagana Zulum’s preferred choice, Mustapha Gubio, was established as the consensus candidate.

Additionally, it is noted that eight APC governors are set to conclude their second terms and depart office by May 29, 2027.
