In a statement posted on its verified X account (formerly Twitter), the generation company explained that the shutdown was necessary for the Nigerian Gas Company to perform maintenance on the gas pipeline supplying Egbin Power Station.

The statement read: “This is to notify the public that at 11:13 hours of December 18, 2023, Egbin Power generating station was shut down to allow the Nigeria Gas Company to maintain a linking gas pipeline supplying gas to Egbin Power Station.

The station will be shut down for three days from today. This means a reduction of 676MW of bulk power generated into the nation’s grid for three days and consequently the quantum of bulk power available to be delivered to distribution companies load centres nationwide for the period.”

Furthermore, Justice Lifu ordered INEC to issue the correct access code to the faction led by Akin Ricketts within 72 hours. Justice Peter Lifu has issued a directive to INEC to register the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) after finding that the commission acted unlawfully by releasing the party’s portal access code to an unauthorized individual, Umar Ardo. Consequently, the court has ordered:

  • INEC must provide the legitimate leadership, headed by Akin Ricketts, with the necessary access code within 72 hours.

  • All previous actions taken by Ardo on behalf of the ADA are declared null and void.

  • The electoral commission is to keep its portal open for one week to allow the Ricketts-led group to submit required registration documents, such as their membership register.
