Quoting Section 174 of the constitution, Ejimakor argued that Tinubu has the authority to instruct the Attorney General of the Federation to halt Kanu’s trial, asserting that the ultimate decision rests with him.

In a post on X, Ejimakor stated, “It’s the President, not the Court, that is holding #MNK. Sec. 174 of the Constitution says that ‘the Attorney General can stop any criminal trial initiated by him’ against anybody. Tinubu can direct the AGF to stop the trial of MNK. @officialABAT, the buck stops at your table.”

Ejimakor also criticized the notion of a unified Nigeria, claiming that Igbos are being penalized for supporting the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

“Where’s the #OneNigeria when Ndigbo are being punished for voting @PeterObi. They forget that Ndigbo also voted for Shagari, OBJ, Yar’Adua, GEJ & Atiku & Yoruba voted for Obasanjo, Ijaw voted for GEJ & Hausa-Fulani voted for Shagari, Yar’Adua & Atiku. #FreeMNK to prove me wrong,” he added.

Responding, Jonathan expressed appreciation to the Emir and the people of Bauchi State for the honour.

Jonathan said, “I am deeply honoured by this recognition and I appreciate His Royal Highness, the Bauchi Emirate and the people of Bauchi State for this honour.”

The former president pledged to uphold the laws and traditions of the Bauchi Emirate Council and preserve the dignity associated with the title.

Jonathan said, “I will continue to respect the traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and ensure that the dignity attached to this title is upheld.”
