BREAKING: Oyo State Government Faces Financial Restriction As Court Orders Freeze On Bank Accounts
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has issued an order to freeze the accounts of the Oyo State Government across ten commercial banks in Nigeria. This directive came as a result of a garnishee proceeding initiated by former council leaders in Oyo State who were removed from their positions by Governor Seyi Makinde on May 29, 2019….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In 2021, the ousted local government chairmen and councillors secured a judgment of N4,874,889,425.60 against Governor Makinde and other state officials/agencies. These officials and agencies, including the Attorney-General, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Accountant-General of Oyo State, Speaker of the House of Assembly, the House of Assembly, and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), were listed as judgment debtors based on a May 7, 2021, Supreme Court decision.
The garnishee proceeding, led by Bashorun Majeed Ajuwon and other ex-council leaders, aimed to recover the outstanding balance of N3,424,889,425.60 (N3.5 billion) from the actual judgment sum. Governor Makinde had paid only N1.5 billion in 2022, leaving the balance unrecovered.
The outstanding amount, as per the Supreme Court judgment, was N3,374,889,425.60. However, the Court of Appeal in Abuja added N50 million as a cost against Makinde and others in a December 8 judgment that dismissed their appeal.
The accounts of the Oyo State Government were frozen in ten banks, including Zenith Bank, United Bank of Africa (UBA), Wema Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, Ecobank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Access Bank, Polaris Bank, Jaiz Bank, and Union Bank.
Justice A. O. Ebong issued the ruling on December 15, with the certified true copy released on Monday. He instructed the banks to file affidavits and appear in court on the next adjourned date to show cause why the garnishee orders should not be made absolute. The judge also imposed a cost of N300,000 against the judgment debtors and scheduled the next hearing for January 5, 2024.

ROYAL WAR: Fusengbuwa Council Draws Bloodlines And Rejects Awujale Stool Removal!.
A bitter leadership feud has erupted within the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, over the vacant Awujale stool. The Grand Council of the ruling house on Wednesday passed a decisive vote of confidence in its executives—Chairman Abdulateef Owoyemi, Deputy Chairman Oladokun Ajidagba, and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf—firmly rejecting their purported removal announced by a rival faction on Sunday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The ouster attempt stemmed from allegations of financial inducement and irregularities in the selection process for the new Awujale. However, speaking on behalf of the family, Owoyemi dismissed the rival group as “impostors” and their investigative committee as a “kangaroo” setup lacking any authority. He asserted that the leadership was established through a unified reconciliation process facilitated by the state government.
The Grand Council has threatened legal action for defamation against the rival members, accusing them of acting out a script designed to sabotage the ruling house’s entitlement to the throne. Furthermore, the Council has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to lift the prolonged suspension on the Awujale selection process, arguing that the delay is fueling internal discord.
In response, Adeyemo Oduneye, secretary of the rival fact-finding committee, defended his group’s actions, insisting they represent the broader family consensus to restore integrity to the selection process. He welcomed the prospect of litigation, stating it would be the best forum to resolve the dispute. The Awujale stool has been vacant since the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona in July 2025, with the selection process halted by the state government in January 2026 amid numerous petitions.
