Just In: Kano APC Dismisses Tinubu Meeting-Allegations As Baseless Rumors
On Sunday, the Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) refuted a circulating report alleging a secret meeting with President Bola Tinubu and the party leadership to influence the Supreme Court appeal by the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP). The three-member Appeal Court panel, led by Justice M. A. Adumeh, had ruled that Yusuf was not listed in the membership register of his political party, citing an electoral act provision requiring a party to have both hard and soft copies of its registered members.
In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas dismissed the rumor, declaring it a fabrication by those spreading it. He emphasized that there was no such meeting with President Bola Tinubu or any party leader, asserting Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law. Abbas reaffirmed the party’s lack of awareness of any such arrangement, expressing the intent to pursue their case at the Supreme Court vigorously.
He further clarified that there was no tension in Kano and assured that the people were content with the outcomes of both the tribunal and appeal court judgments. Abbas pledged the party’s dedication to maintaining peaceful relationships with various ethnic groups and nationalities in the state, despite occasional provocations from the governing party.
