Having previously served as the representative for Ogun Central Senatorial District in the Senate from 2007 to 2011, Obasanjo-Bello faced defeat in her re-election attempt in 2011, losing to Senator Gbenga Obadara of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Following her electoral setback, she withdrew from public life and reportedly relocated abroad, securing a lecturing position after the 2011 election.
Surprising many after a 12-year hiatus, Daily Trust reports that Obasanjo-Bello returned to the public scene on Thursday at a reception honoring the immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji-Ishola. The event, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), brought together notable figures, including former Ogun State governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Egba monarchs such as Oba Adedotun Gbadebo (Alake of Egbaland), Oba Adedapo Tejuoso (Osile of Oke-Ona Egba), and Oba Saka Matemilola (Olowu of Owu).
Adorned in a locally made blue bubu gown crafted from Adire fabric, Obasanjo-Bello made a memorable entrance into the hall, capturing attention among the gathering of prominent Egba dignitaries, politicians, and other personalities. In a brief conversation with journalists, she praised Tunji-Ishola as a valuable asset to Ogun State and Nigeria, expressing optimism for his continued success and contributions to the growth of the state and the nation.
