The Governor suggested an alternative approach, urging those intending to celebrate him to make monetary or material contributions to benefit less privileged children in the state. He specified that gifts and cash should be directed to three Government Special Schools in the state’s three senatorial districts: Government Special School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti, Government Special School for the Blind in Ikere-Ekiti, and Government Special School for the Mentally and Physically Challenged in Ido-Ekiti. Additionally, contributions can be made to the State Relief and Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Challenged in Ado-Ekiti.
In a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, it was recommended that friends and well-wishers channel financial and material gifts to these schools, emphasizing that such contributions would constitute a more meaningful and appreciated form of birthday celebration. The Governor stressed the importance of citizens reaching out to the less privileged in society, especially considering the current state of the country.
Governor Oyebanji expressed his satisfaction with the positive impact of last year’s birthday gifts on the special schools and their students. He noted the enhancements to student welfare and facilities within the schools resulting from the contributions. The Governor expressed his desire for a similar outcome this year, encouraging friends and well-wishers to join him in bringing joy to the faces of students with disabilities rather than hosting parties or presenting traditional gifts.
Biodun Oyebanji, an Ikogosi-Ekiti native and former university lecturer turned politician, is set to celebrate his 56th birthday on December 21, 2023.
