Aiyedatiwa engaged with the President and other stakeholders to address the political challenges in Ondo State.

Upon landing at Akure Airport via a commercial airline, the acting governor was warmly received by Ifedayo Abegunde, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Director of Corporate Affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

His return coincided with the confirmation by the House of Assembly that it had received a letter from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, officially transferring power to Aiyedatiwa, as Akeredolu announced his intention to go on a medical leave.

The governor’s absence had triggered heightened political tensions in the state, leading to calls for the constitutional transfer of power to Aiyedatiwa. Additionally, the situation caused divisions among members of the State Executive Council, with some commissioners aligning themselves with Aiyedatiwa. There were also allegations of forgery of the governor’s signature by certain officials.

Kenneth Okonkwo, a campaign spokesman for African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has asserted that opposition leaders have united behind the former Vice President as their consensus choice for the 2027 presidential race. Speaking during a Thursday interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo stated that this unified coalition originally agreed to adopt the ADC as their shared platform on July 2, 2026, with prominent figures like 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi present for the decision. According to Okonkwo, Atiku’s recent decision to challenge President Bola Tinubu to a debate stems directly from his standing as the undisputed leader of this opposition movement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Elaborating on the formation of this coalition during an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, Okonkwo revealed that multiple opposition figures initially converged to adopt the ADC as their collective political platform on July 2, 2026. He noted that key political actors—including the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi—were physically present when this foundational agreement was finalized.

Addressing the subsequent political alignment of Peter Obi, Okonkwo discussed Obi’s transition to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Okonkwo maintained that, based on a judicial ruling, the NDC currently functions legally as a political association rather than a fully recognized political party, a status that is presently undergoing the appeals process. Furthermore, Okonkwo criticized Obi’s departure from the original coalition framework, claiming that Obi was strategically lured away from the ADC and has consequently landed in a politically precarious position within the NDC.
