Nigerians React As Ohanaeze Calls For Freedom For IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Before Christmas
The foremost Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called upon the Federal Government to grant the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, his freedom as a Christmas gesture for the South-East region….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Damian Okeke-Ogene, the Vice-President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, conveyed the group’s plea on Sunday, emphasizing that failure to release Kanu would signify a loss of hope for the people of the South-East during the Christmas season.
Ohanaeze’s request precedes the December 15, 2023, Supreme Court ruling on the Federal Government’s case against Kanu.
Okeke-Ogene debunked claims that influential Igbo figures, including regional governors, were involved in prolonging Kanu’s detention.
“We don’t want to delve too much into the politics surrounding Kanu’s release. If he is freed on December 15, it is long overdue, given that competent courts have twice declared him not guilty and ordered his release, yet no action has been taken,” he stated.
He expressed hope that the Supreme Court would deliver justice, with an expectation that President Bola Tinubu would recognize the futility of the resources and lives expended on the matter and, therefore, release Kanu as a Christmas gift to the South-East, promoting peace in the region.
Okeke-Ogene criticized the Federal Government for its reluctance to collaborate with the Finnish government to address the issue of IPOB’s autopilot arm, led by Simon Ekpa, who is perceived as instigating unrest in the region in the name of agitation.
In the meantime, prior to the Supreme Court decision, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, expressed concerns about Justice Tsammani Haruna’s elevation to the Supreme Court. In a statement on Sunday, Powerful alleged that Justice Haruna’s promotion was a reward for keeping Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) without formal charges.
