Speaking at the 2nd NUJ Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria event in Lagos on Thursday night, he emphasized that the Charter, set to be unveiled early next year by President Bola Tinubu, seeks to instill in all Nigerians a balanced understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens of the greatest black nation on earth.

Represented by the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, the minister highlighted that the Charter will include a Nigerian promise and citizen codes, outlining the core values of Nigerians while respecting ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversities.

He revealed the formation of a committee of renowned experts tasked with finalizing a Values Charter for Nigeria, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision for a sustained reorientation of national values and attitudes. Stressing the crucial role of the media in this mission, he urged the NUJ for its support, emphasizing that success in this vital mission hinges on their cooperation.

In a post shared on his official X account on Monday, Shehu reacted to reports suggesting that only a small fraction of the Nigerian Army’s 2025 budget for security equipment has been released.

He stated that although over ₦20 billion was approved for the procurement of security equipment, only about ₦1.7 billion—roughly 7 percent—has reportedly been disbursed so far.
