Nigerians React As Dangote Refinery Receives Inaugural Crude Supply, Initiating-Production Phase (See Details)
According to market sources and tanker tracking data reported by SP Global, the initial crude feedstock for Dangote’s 650,000 barrels per day (b/d) refinery has reached the country. This development, after years of delays, signals the imminent commencement of fuel production at the newly built $19 billion facility….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

As per the report, the OTIS tanker transported a cargo of 950,000 barrels of Agbami crude on December 6, which was subsequently discharged at the refinery’s terminal on Thursday. This marks the first delivery of crude supplies to Dangote’s massive plant as it begins the process of scaling up its operations, as noted by a West African oil trader.
Although the privately owned refinery was officially completed in May, it had not produced any oil products due to the absence of domestic crude feedstock. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), holding a 20% stake in the refinery, recently agreed to supply 6 million barrels of crude oil as feedstock to the facility in December.
Agbami, operated by Chevron, stands as one of Nigeria’s significant deepwater developments, contributing around 100,000 b/d in the central Niger Delta. Known for its light sweet crude with specific characteristics, Agbami has a gravity of 47.9 API and a sulfur content of 0.04%. The crude is recognized for its substantial production of naphtha and kerosene.
The NNPC has chartered additional tankers to transport additional crude shipments from offshore fields to the refinery later this month, as per the information provided by the oil trader.
Despite the refinery’s official completion in May, its startup has faced repeated delays since the project’s announcement in 2013, even though most key units were installed in 2019. The crude distillation unit is designed to process 12 crudes simultaneously, including three Nigerian crude grades—Escravos, Bonny Light, and Forcados. Once fully operational, the refinery is expected to produce 327,000 b/d of gasoline, 244,000 b/d of gasoil/diesel, 56,000 b/d of jet fuel/kerosene, and 290,000 metric tons per year of propane/LPG, according to earlier presentations by Dangote.
