Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, announced the government’s endorsement of the Nigerian government’s call for a non-kinetic solution to address the agitation in the southeast. The Finland-based lawyer and separatist disclosed these demands on Thursday in a statement following Abdullahi Adamu, the Chairman of the All Progressives Party, revealing Tinubu’s position during a visit by Governor Hope Uzodinma and other southeast stakeholders in Abuja.
In response to Tinubu’s stance, Ekpa called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, acknowledgment of the map presented by BRGIE through the declaration of a referendum for the region, demilitarization of the zone, and the removal of all checkpoints as essential conditions for restoring peace in the southeast.
Ekpa emphasized that the Nigerian government should recognize the 40 states claimed by BRGIE from the southeast by granting liberation to the region. He further stated, “We demand the withdrawal of all military and other Nigerian forces from Biafra territory.” Additionally, he stressed the acknowledgment of the 40 states from the old South-South and Southeast by the Nigeria government, with these states referred to as the United States of Biafra, aligning with the Northern Elders Forum’s demand, and urged the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
