During a meeting with the President of Benin, Patrice Talon, at the State House Abuja on Wednesday, President Tinubu underscored the importance of collaboration for economic advancement in West Africa. He emphasized that a lack of synergy between Nigeria and Benin has hindered mutual progress.
President Tinubu commended the economic initiatives undertaken by Benin’s administration through inter-ministerial collaboration, expressing appreciation for the shared ideas and characterizing the relationship between the two nations as “very cordial.”
Highlighting the need for economic alignment, President Tinubu remarked, “We are one. No other nation like ours should be worried. What is affecting us is a lack of synergy. We have not developed the necessary economic synergy that will develop our two nations. We must have common economic principles and priorities. The economic programme you are developing through inter-ministerial collaboration is welcomed by me.”
President Talon, in turn, emphasized the significance of the relationship between Benin and Nigeria, describing it as crucial. He outlined Benin’s national development plan, which includes enhanced integration with Nigeria, acknowledging that various agreements had been signed to facilitate integration but faced challenges in implementation.
