As part of this initiative, the NDDC team, led by Mrs. Winifred Madume, the Commission’s Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, conducted on-site visits to several farm holdings in Delta State, including Adventium Songhai Delta Nigeria Limited, Emmppek Farms, and Okemute Farms, all situated in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area.

The purpose of these visits was to assess the physical infrastructure and readiness of the farms to participate in the commission’s program. During the visits, Madume expressed satisfaction with the food security agenda, highlighting it as an initiative led by Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s policy, emphasizing stakeholder engagement in the development process.

Madume stated that NDDC’s intervention in agriculture aims to educate the region’s youth on the business aspects of agriculture, making it more appealing to them. She explained that the commission is engaging with identified farm holdings to understand their challenges, needs, and the reasons behind the nation’s food insecurity.

Madume stated, “NDDC’s working tour is to explore areas of collaboration, focusing on how to absorb agro-allied trainees and providing necessary training for prospective farmers, especially interested retirees.”

She added that the NDDC program is concurrently taking place in Imo, Abia, Edo, and Ondo States. The goal is to compile field reports for presentation to the Group Managing Director, taking collective action to ensure food security in the region and across Nigeria.

Mr. Isaac Oghogho, the Chief Executive of Adventium Songhai Delta Nigeria Limited, expressed his organization’s readiness to collaborate with NDDC, aiming to transform the 137.5-hectare farm into an agro-industrial processing and tourism center.

Similarly, Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, the Managing Director of Emmppek Farms, informed the NDDC team about the farm’s current facilities, including two pens with a capacity for 100,000 birds and a feed mill catering to poultry product feeding. He used the opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to subsidize maize and soya, preventing the collapse of the country’s agricultural sector. He also urged the government to actively promote patronage of made-in-Nigeria food products to boost the nation’s agro-allied industry.

According to the charge, the defendants allegedly conspired in 2025 to destabilise the Nigerian state and undermine the authority of the President.

It was further alleged that they planned actions intended to “levy war against the state to overawe the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” an offence punishable under the Criminal Code.

Prosecutors also claimed the accused had prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others but failed to report it to the authorities or take steps to prevent it.

Beyond the treason allegations, they are also being prosecuted under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, for allegedly supporting and participating in activities linked to terrorism.

Two of the defendants, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and Zekeri Umoru, were specifically accused of attending meetings allegedly connected to terrorist planning and ideological mobilisation aimed at destabilising the country’s constitutional order.

“Don’t come to APC. Stay in ADC and scatter them. We like what you’re doing. Don’t mind former governor Yahaya Bello, who said you should join APC. No, no, no, stay in ADC and win your election. Also, bring Bala Gombe, and we’ll support him. Good luck in court,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, fresh tension has emerged within the African Democratic Congress as factional leader Nafiu Bala accused former national chairman Ralph Nwosu of misrepresenting the purpose of a recent party event.

Bala, speaking in an interview on AIT on Monday, said he was invited to what he believed was a routine meeting to welcome new members but later discovered it was used to announce a new leadership structure led by David Mark.

According to him, the development has deepened existing internal disputes within the party, especially with the appointment of David Mark and others into key leadership positions during the gathering.
