Governor Abiodun emphasized the alignment of the expenditure policy with the Ogun State Economic Development Plan and Strategy 2021 – 2025. The budget aims to achieve fiscal sustainability, human development, food security, improved business environment, energy sufficiency, and promote industrialization with a focus on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.
Key projects include the Light up Ogun Project, hosting the 2024 Ogun National Sports Festival, and construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of roads. The state plans to extend the Lagos Blue Line Metro Rail Project into Agbara and integrate the Lagos Red Line Metro Rail Project into Ijoko and Ifo/Kajola under the Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission initiative.
The Agrocargo International Airport, designed to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and create jobs, is a significant development. Governor Abiodun highlighted the airport’s potential to reduce post-harvest losses, improve inter-regional and international connectivity for agro produce, increase forex earnings, and attract investments.
Ogun State’s transformation, evident in its infrastructure revolution and emerging status as a top investment destination, aligns with the proposed budget’s focus on total transformation. The state’s strategic position and proximity to Lagos have attracted global investors, positioning Ogun as a hub for investment.
The budget reflects the administration’s commitment to various sectors, including education, agriculture, housing, and water supply projects. Additionally, plans for the construction of the Olokola Deep Seaport and efforts to join the league of oil-producing states showcase the state’s forward-looking approach.
In anticipation of these developments, Ogun State has established the Ministry of Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Energy to oversee natural resources and participate in the energy sector. The administration’s commitment to constructing over 2,000 housing units and improving water reticulation projects further emphasizes the comprehensive nature of the budget for total transformation.

Rejection of Helen Prest’s Claims: The court dismissed claims by former beauty queen Helen Prest, who asserted she was also a spouse through a Kalabari customary marriage.
-
Lack of Evidence: Justice Odusanya described Prest’s customary marriage claim as an “afterthought,” noting her inconsistent past descriptions of her relationship with the deceased and the total lack of documentary or photographic evidence.
-

-
Resolution of Estate: The judgment grants Mrs. Ajayi and her children all requested reliefs, including her entitlement to one-third of the personal estate and exclusive rights to apply for letters of administration.

-
Rejection of Mid-cycle Changes: Despite pressure from some colleagues to amend the act following certain judicial rulings, Bamidele refused to support these efforts to avoid altering the rules of the game so close to primaries and general elections.
-
Separation of Powers: Bamidele emphasized that the legislative branch writes laws, the President signs them, and the judiciary interprets them. He noted that if courts strike down portions of INEC’s guidelines, it is a functional part of the democratic system.
-
Addressing Criticisms: He dismissed some critiques of the current act—including those from former Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Ighini—as stemming from a “fundamental misunderstanding” of the legislature’s intent.
-
Protecting INEC: He highlighted that INEC is currently facing intense pressure from various stakeholders, and he believes any future amendments should only be considered after the 2027 elections are completed, with a clear caveat that such changes cannot be applied retroactively.
