Despite not being cleared by the National Assembly for ministerial confirmation due to security concerns, El-Rufai announced on Monday, December 4th, that he is poised to assume the position of part-time Chairman of the Board for Afri-Venture Capital Company Ltd.
Through his X platform account, the former Kaduna State Governor shared the news, stating, “MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENT: I can confirm that our VC-PE firm, Afri-Venture Capital Company Ltd will, by the Grace of God, begin operations initially in Abuja in January 2024 with Jimi Lawal, Hafiz Bayero, Eyo Ekpo, and Kabir Yabo as founding directors and initial shareholders. I am privileged to be the part-time Chairman of the Board.”
El-Rufai elaborated on the company’s mission, expressing the goal to finance, nurture, and mentor young innovators and entrepreneurs in Nigeria and, eventually, across Africa. He concluded with a request for prayers for the success of their endeavors and for the aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs they aim to support on their path to becoming the future Dangote Group.

Hanga recounted that Kwankwaso later confronted him, complaining that the event was designed to court public praise and dismissing the small portion of items allocated to him. Despite Hanga apologizing, he felt deeply disrespected—especially after previous instances where Kwankwaso pressured him to allocate empowerment resources outside his senatorial district.
Concluding that mutual respect had vanished and that Kwankwaso’s dissatisfaction ultimately cost him his return ticket, Hanga remarked, “He has treated others this way, but he had never done it to me until that moment.”
