Addressing the PDP Mobilisers Group in Abuja, Damagum asserted that the NWC, under his guidance, had sanctioned the establishment of a committee tasked with reviewing and reconciling disgruntled members. He emphasized the party’s commitment to prioritizing reconciliation and expanding its membership rather than penalizing those accused of anti-party activities, which he believed could potentially harm the party.

Damagum explained, “When you are in a leadership position, you are bound by a set of rules. Even if these rules are challenging, you refrain from applying them to prevent causing harm to the party. The party’s focus is on reconciliation, and the formation of a committee demonstrates our dedication to resolving internal conflicts.”

He expressed pride in the party’s history, highlighting his personal journey from being a driver to the acting national chairman. Despite acknowledging the painful setback in the 2023 presidential election, Damagum cautioned party members against engaging in a blame game. He disclosed that the NWC had approved the creation of a committee for reviewing and reconciling the 2023 election, extending its scope to include the period from 2015 to 2019.

Acknowledging the presence of members involved in anti-party activities at various levels, Damagum urged patience, stating, “If I initiated suspensions, numerous individuals would face disciplinary action due to their engagement in anti-party activities. We aim to preserve party unity and manage it effectively, as per my mandate.”

African Action Congress (AAC) 2027 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has cautioned citizens against falling for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s stance on reversing the fuel subsidy. In response via an X post, Sowore rejected Atiku’s remarks, asserting that the AAC remains the sole political party that has steadfastly opposed the subsidy removal from the outset. He accused Atiku and other establishment politicians of shifting their stances based on political convenience and foreign capitalist interests, stating that they should not be permitted to rewrite history or masquerade as genuine opposition figures. Sowore further claimed that it was the AAC’s unwavering position at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt that actually rattled the Tinubu government, rather than any actions from Atiku’s camp.

Governor Fubara explained that the initiative began following an inspection visit prompted by the Hospital Management Board regarding a rehabilitation center under construction. Observing that the aging mental health facility—originally established in 1977 with a 50-bed capacity—had deteriorated into a hub for drug trafficking where outsiders mixed with inmates, he immediately ordered a total modernization and rebuilding of the compound.

The newly remodeled facility now features a secure, fully fenced perimeter with strict gate access and houses a 100-bed rehabilitation center designed to handle substance abuse and mental health challenges, which the governor noted are frequently fueled by unemployment and depression.
