The opposition APC contends that the NNPP supporters’ protest violates the Peace Accord signed by parties ahead of the March 18 governorship election.

Protests have been unfolding in Kano since last week following revelations of contradictions in the Court of Appeal’s judgment, which ousted Yusuf of the NNPP and declared Nasiru Gawuna of the APC as the victor in the Kano governorship poll.

During a press conference in Kano on Thursday, APC leader and former Commissioner for Rural Development, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso, accused the Yusuf government of financing the protests to generate public sympathy.

Kwankwaso asserted that the court judgment was just and followed constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act.

“These judgments were passed in accordance with the constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act, as amended. Not happy with the judgment, the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement have engaged in massive propaganda, thereby insulting the judiciary and trying to instigate political violence in Kano,” Kwankwaso stated.

He further emphasized that the protests were a breach of the Peace Accord and criticized the NNPP government for misrepresenting the state’s situation, asserting that Kano was experiencing peace and normalcy.

“The people of Kano are with APC and with Gawuna and Ganduje. We won our election, and the court detected the invalid votes they mischievously placed during the polls and cancelled them, and ours were returned to us,” he added.

Kwankwaso commended the people of the state for their support and urged them to remain calm and law-abiding as they await the Supreme Court’s judgment, expressing confidence that it will be in their favor.

Kenneth Okonkwo, a campaign spokesman for African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has asserted that opposition leaders have united behind the former Vice President as their consensus choice for the 2027 presidential race. Speaking during a Thursday interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo stated that this unified coalition originally agreed to adopt the ADC as their shared platform on July 2, 2026, with prominent figures like 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi present for the decision. According to Okonkwo, Atiku’s recent decision to challenge President Bola Tinubu to a debate stems directly from his standing as the undisputed leader of this opposition movement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Elaborating on the formation of this coalition during an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, Okonkwo revealed that multiple opposition figures initially converged to adopt the ADC as their collective political platform on July 2, 2026. He noted that key political actors—including the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi—were physically present when this foundational agreement was finalized.

Addressing the subsequent political alignment of Peter Obi, Okonkwo discussed Obi’s transition to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Okonkwo maintained that, based on a judicial ruling, the NDC currently functions legally as a political association rather than a fully recognized political party, a status that is presently undergoing the appeals process. Furthermore, Okonkwo criticized Obi’s departure from the original coalition framework, claiming that Obi was strategically lured away from the ADC and has consequently landed in a politically precarious position within the NDC.
